We’d probably be in the middle of a pandemic, but Nigerian singer-songwriter Burna Boy is busier than ever. When Vogue met him recently at his home in Lagos, she was preparing to fly to London to announce her new album, Twice as Tall – and as if that wasn’t enough, she had to appear on The Tonight Show with Jimmy. They fail the moment he landed.
Fortunately, Burna Boy has his trusted breakfast consisting of Burna Boy Space Puffs (“2018, vintage”) and hot water to put him in the right head area to travel. After a quick hair change at home, he shows us one of his favorite areas, the room where he sells his favorite vinyl, from Bob Marley’s Legend to an album through his grandfather, announcer and music critic Benson Idonije.
Burna Boy’s Day includes a quick, home-made photo shoot to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, before traveling to the airport to get to London, where she reflects on the strangeness of releasing an album into such a confusing and divided world, noting: “There are many things happening right now that other people seem a little blind , and it’s time to perceive its surroundings and what’s happening in the world. “
After this thought, it’s time for Burna Boy with a movie, as well as his cinematic selection snack (Skittles, if you’re curious). By the time the morning arrives, he is exhausted by his travels and his appearance on TV until late at night and more than in conditions of a well-deserved rest. Being a jet-set isn’t as undeniable as it sounds!
