The airport dispatcher conducted a gun check and police kept the gun, but begged the comedian, who was not arrested, how to retrieve it.
The data was sent to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office, which will do so if fees are set.
Spokesman Michael Leffler said Wednesday that the DA’s office is investigating the case.
“These rarely result in fraud charges,” Leffler said.
“I think it’s vital to note that the burden of proof required by law and case law demands that it be discovered whether a user knowingly or deliberately brought the firearm,” he added. “Generally speaking, the maximum non-unusual circumstance is that firearms located through the TSA or airport police are accidentally left in bags. “
Last year, the Transportation Security Administration seized a record 6542 guns at airports across the country. Most people who are arrested for having a gun at an airport checkpoint say they forgot they had the gun with them.
