“My eyes see Oppenheimer. ” It was in this exciting, if deeply unconventional, way that Al Pacino announced the Best Picture winner to close out the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday night. While Pacino’s exclusive publicity taste intrigued viewers, some audience members were disappointed that Pacino hadn’t named Top 10 Films Nominated before announcing that Oppenheimer had won the award for best. In an interview with US Weekly, Pacino clarified that it wasn’t his decision to give up on naming all the nominees, but rather the producers’ decision.
“As it turns out, there’s some controversy about the fact that I didn’t mention all the movies last night before I pronounced the Best Picture award,” Pacino told US Weekly. “I just need to be transparent that it wasn’t my goal. “to forget them, but rather a selection of the brands so as not to repeat them as they were highlighted separately throughout the ceremony. I felt revered for being a part of the evening and decided to stick to the way they did. Prize to be awarded.
The 10 Best Picture nominees were highlighted at some point in the rite with brief but emotional cuts, which was supposedly meant to eliminate the desire to mention them again. And while the rite ended early for a change, time was still an issue; While host Jimmy Kimmel broke down at the beginning of his monologue, the presentation was “already over for five minutes” within minutes of starting.
“I realize that being nominated is a milestone in life and that not being fully identified is offensive and hurtful,” Pacino continued. “I saw him as someone who has deep relationships with filmmakers, actors and producers, so I deeply sympathize with those who have been harmed by this oversight and that’s why I felt it was mandatory to make this statement. “
Pacino didn’t intend to hand out the biggest award of the night alone. He had intended to reunite with his Scarface co-star Michelle Pfeiffer to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary, but, according to Deadline, Pfeiffer had to withdraw from the rite for “personal reasons” that prevented him from traveling from New York to Los Angeles. All in all, the 83-year-old Pacino did a remarkable job of ending the rite himself and offering a moment of genuine intrigue before Oppenheimer’s inevitable victory. Best Picture.
