AMC Theatres plans to relaunch “42”, the film in which Chadwick Boseman played the role of legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson, this week in honor of the deceased actor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the company will screen the film in more than three hundred locations starting this weekend and customers will be able to purchase tickets to attend Tuesday’s screenings.
Boseman starred alongside Harrison Ford, who played former Brooklyn Dodgers director Branch Rickey in the hit film. The film tells the story of the time Robinson was the first African-American player in the major leagues.
Named after Robinson’s number, the film was critically acclaimed when it released in 2013, grossing about $ 100 million worldwide, according to Variety. The budget for the film would have been around $ 42 million.
The report comes days after Boseman’s death. The actor, also known for his role in “Black Panther” as King T’Challa, died at the age of 43 last Friday after fighting colon cancer. His death shocked Hollywood and social media.
Shortly after pronouncing his death online, Ford praised Boseman’s talent for a reception through Variety.
“Chadwick Boseman is as convincing, tough and just as the characters he chose to play. His intelligence, non-public dignity and deep commitment encouraged his colleagues and enhanced the stories he told,” Ford said.
“He’s as much a hero as he’s played. He is enjoyed and missed a lot,” he added.
AMC theaters would sell tickets to the film’s screenings for $5. Rules Cinemas and Cinemark would screen the film.
