Parents love “Encanto,” with two names from the movie in the top 10 most sensible
NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / June 6, 2024 / Disney videos certainly have an influence, and that influence can be seen in the trend of baby calls in their iconic videos. BeenVerified conducted research on the Social Security Administration’s baby name data set, which analyzed Disney’s impact on baby calling trends in the United States.
In the years when a Disney film was in the top 50 at the box office, the likelihood that a major character’s appearance in that film would double in popularity was at least particularly higher, occurring in 5. 9% of cases. This rate is almost double that of the complete list of calls.
Here are the top 10 most sensible Disney names based on their growing popularity since 1980.
Cultural differences in the United States are also evident in naming trends. For example, Montana, known for its vast herbaceous landscapes, was ranked No. 1 by Koda, a bear. Hawaii, with its close connection to the ocean, was ranked No. 1 by Ariel and Moana, characters related to life in or on the water. Louisiana, with its cultural heritage in New Orleans, was ranked No. 1 for Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, a short story set in “The Big Easy. “
Methodology
For each year and call the SSA dataset, a percentage replacement measure is calculated by dividing that year’s count by the average count for the past five years. For example, for John in 2022, the number of Johns in 2022 divided by the average number of Johns from 2017 to 2021. This percentage replaces the 5-year average used as the basis for rating calls.
The Disney names analyzed were limited to characters from Disney animated films that were among the top 50 highest-grossing films at the domestic box office since 1980, according to BoxOfficeMojo. The most prominent ratings focused on the years of release of the related film or the following year. The states were ranked according to the average number of births per capita of those names.
