Pre-orders are now online for the upcoming 4K Blu-ray edition of Gran Turismo, the big-screen adaptation not of the old PlayStation game, but of a desirable similar story. Directed by Neill Blomkamp of District 9, the film is loosely based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the teenage Gran Turismo player turned professional racing driver.
You can pre-order the Steelbook 4K UHD edition exclusively at Best Buy for $38. This edition also comes with Blu-ray and virtual versions of the film. We wouldn’t be surprised to see this edition sell out.
The Walmart-exclusive Steelbook Blu-ray edition of Gran Turismo can be pre-ordered for $28. It comes with a popular Blu-ray disc and a virtual copy. It is packaged in a collectible Steelbook box. Like Best Buy’s Steelbook 4K edition, we wouldn’t be surprised if Walmart’s exclusivity sold out before launch.
You can also pre-order Gran Turismo in 3 other formats on Amazon. The 4K Blu-ray edition is recently discounted at $33. The 4K edition also comes with a popular Blu-ray disc and a virtual copy. Standard Blu-ray with virtual and DVD with virtual can also be pre-ordered. Lately its value is higher than that of the 4K edition, but those values will probably fall.
No extras have yet to be announced for the Blu-ray release, which doesn’t have a release date yet, but you can probably expect behind-the-scenes content, watchdog tracks, and trailers. The film stars Archie Madekwe as Mardenborough alongside David. Harbour, Darren Barnet, Emelia Hartford, Geri Halliwell Horner, Djimon Hounsou and Orlando Bloom as villain Danny Moore.
Critically, Gran Turismo doesn’t do it very well. On GameSpot’s sister site, Metacritic, the racing game movie lately has a Metascore of 46 out of 43 critics. The public turns out to appreciate it, since its user Metascore stands at 7. 7 at that time. of writing. While several critics have called Gran Turismo a nifty advertisement for the PlayStation game that lasts too long, there is some consensus that Blomkamp’s creation produced several impressive racing scenes, as well as an honest appreciation for the video game franchise.
