Busby is serving a 50-year criminal sentence after being convicted of manslaughter for fatally stabbing a man in the Houston domain in 2016, according to court and criminal records. Calls to attorneys representing Busby were not returned Wednesday.

Chemirimir was killed in the Coffield unit about two weeks after the Texas Department of Criminal Justice put its hundred prisons into an infrequent lockdown state due to an increase in the number of murders within the facility. While maximum prisons had resumed general operations Wednesday, the Coffield unit remained closed.

Chemirmir was arrested in 2018 after a 91-year-old woman survived an attack and told police that a man forced his way into her apartment in an independent senior living community, tried to suffocate her with a pillow and removed her jewelry.
Police said they discovered Chemirmir the next day in the parking lot of his apartment complex with jewelry and cash, after throwing away a red jewelry box. The documents at the jewelry box took them to the home of 81-year-old Lu Thi Harris. who died in his bedroom.
Chemirmir convicted of capital murder in Harris’ death and in an upcoming trial for the murder of 87-year-old Mary Brooks. Chemirmir, who maintained his innocence, served two life sentences without the option of parole.

After Chemirmir’s arrest, Dallas-area police began reviewing the deaths and charges multiplied. He eventually charged him with 22 counts of murder punishable by death.
