“Dancing With the Stars” professional Cheryl Burke announced Tuesday that she has reached a milestone: she has been officially sober for two years.
In statements to the “LadyGang” podcast, the 36-year-old woman talked about it beyond alcohol addiction and why she gave up the lifestyle.
“It was just a resolution I made for myself,” Burke said. “It was when Matt [Lawrence] and I got engaged and it was this engagement party that Array . . . I was, like, it was over. “
Former “Dance Moms” coach, who married Lawrence in 2019, gave up alcohol because she didn’t need to end up like her father.
“My father is an alcoholic,” Burke said of his deceased father. “So either I’ll crash and burn and enroll in rehab, or I’ll just avoid Cold Turkey. “
The two-time Mirror Ball champion noted that her early resolve to avoid drinking is an example of her personality, she saw things as “black or white. “
Burke also explained how his reports beyond addiction have allowed him to expand a link with the famous spouse of “DWTS” AJ McLean.
“We made connections right away,” Burke said, telling how she and the Backstreet Boys singer first met Zoom. They can now communicate freely about their treatment and self-help because of their struggles beyond.
While most of his in-depth discussions end up being interrupted, Burke said he fully understood why “DWTS” has moved away from conveying such sensitive content.
“It’s about us. It’s about fame, 100%,” he said.
