Celebrities were quick to jump on social media and share their celebrations of England’s dramatic victory in the Euro 2024 final after Ollie Watkins’ 90th-minute goal allowed the Three Lions to pull off a 2-1 win over the Netherlands to face Spain on Sunday.
A start in Dortmund saw Xavi Simons punish starting Declan Rice with a very good long-range shot. But England responded, with Harry Kane fouling Denzel Dumfries in the penalty area. As extra time approached, substitute Watkins, in Kane’s position, fired a shot from a tight angle to send Southgate’s team through to Sunday’s final.
Former England captain David Beckham shared his admiration for The Three Lions on Instagram Stories, writing: “Wow, England team. ” The beloved midfielder even gave a special shout-out to Watkins, who scored England’s winning goal after just a few minutes on the field.
“That’s why they’re a TEAM,” Beckham said. What a moment. Well done Ollie.
TV actor Ross Kemp, known for his role as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders, has made fans laugh after sharing him enthusiastically celebrating Watkins’ goal. “Oh, Ollie Watkins, you did it,” he shouted at his camera. “We knew those adjustments would work. Gareth Southgate, genius, genius, genius,” he added.
Even the new British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, revealed that he took a break on his first stop with US President Joe Biden at the White House so that Harry Kane could be sanctioned. “I picked a smart time to leave the NATO meetings and check out the result,” Starmer wrote on Instagram alongside a video of him watching the game.
He later added about the final result: “What a @England match and what a winner. Berlin, here we come!
Prince William, who in the past had gone viral for his theatrical reaction to England’s Euro 2024 quarterfinal penalty shootout win over Switzerland last week, shared his verdict on the Three Lions’ qualification to the final on the Instagram account he shares with Kate.
“What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations to England! Finalists of the #EURO2024 W,” celebrated the Prince of Wales.
Meanwhile, broadcaster Piers Morgan spoke about the discontent that had arisen among England manager Gareth Southgate’s fans ahead of the victory.
“I’m excited for Southgate,” he wrote. “We all doubted him in this tournament, but they gave us the final and I think we are going to win on Sunday. “
And he added: “Brilliant victory. Brilliant goal. Brilliant performance. Brilliant management. Congratulations to England, to Ollie Watkins and Gareth Southgate.
“A game of immortality, boys, come in and take it home. “
