Florence Pugh has revealed why she responded to embarrassing comments about her Valentino dress.
The British actress, who was recently named ambassador for Valentino’s new logo, spoke about the backlash she faced when she dressed to wear a transparent Valentino pink for the logo’s couture display in Rome last July. In an interview with The New York Times published on April 26, Pugh shared that she was “surprised” by the negative reaction the dress received.
“I’ve received a lot of positive feedback, but I’ve been surprised that other people feel entitled to be terrible and say nasty things because I showed my nipples,” she told The Times. Almost a year later, the Don’t Worry Darling star campaign argued that the see-through tulle dress, which featured Pugh’s breasts, was not sexual at all.

“I’ve never been afraid of what’s under the fabric,” she told Vogue. “If I’m satisfied with that, I’m going to use it. Of course, I don’t need to offend people, but I think my point is: how can my nipples offend you so much?”

She even walked the “champagne” carpet at the 2023 Oscars dressed in a strapless beige taffeta suit from Valentino. The ambitious fashion moment, with flowing exercise and frilly sleeves, also inspired many of the night’s viral memes.
Florence Pugh is expected to cement her relationship with the Italian fashion space at the 2023 Met Gala, which takes place on May 1 at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. It won’t be Pugh’s first Met Gala, but he will also attend. with Valentino’s artistic director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, as an appointment.
