Traditional automakers are approaching exciting new electric vehicles.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) will run on the Mustang Mach E next year, and General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) has mocked the all-electric GMC Hummer EV.

It now appears that Ford’s next electric vehicle, a Ford F-150, will soon enter production.

Ford will close a plant to upgrade the redesigned gasoline F-150, according to a Bloomberg report Monday.

Ford is building a new facility near its trucking plant in Dearborn, Michigan, to build an electric F-150, according to the report, which brings other anonymous people familiar with the project. The same source said that prototyping will begin next year. The new plant is expected to employ three hundred new workers.

Benzinga shot: It’ll be appealing to see if Ford can get this truck out in a timely manner to compete with Tesla Inc.’s Cybertruck (NASDAQ: TSLA) and Rivian’s all-electric truck.

Tesla and Rivian have pre-orders, which seems like a big interest in a high-performance electric van. If Ford can use your F-150 brand, your electric van can retain your customers.
