Much has been said about Ford’s upcoming “baby” pickup, which will serve as an entry-level pick under the Ranger and F-150.
The look of Ford’s compact van, which is said to be degrading under Maverick’s badge, has been a mystery so far, but that’s becoming (slightly) today, as our photographers have detected several prototypes being tested in the United States.
Note that the prototypes are fully disguised and have a fitted sheet and loose black cover, like a lot of padding, however those shots are very informative because they compare the length of the Maverick to that of a Ford Ranger accompanying the convoy.

It is quite evident that the Maverick is smaller than the Ranger, but it is not as small as some thought; although it is particularly lower, it turns out to be almost as long as its medium brother and a little narrower.
Unlike the frame body ranger, the Maverick uses a unibody platform of Ford’s compact C2 architecture that supports the fourth generation Focus and the newer Escape/Kuga SUV.
Although it is too early to communicate the details, the C2 platform suggests that the Maverick will have cross-mounted powertrains. Diversity is expected to come with only four-cylinder engines, atmospherically and turbocharged, depending on the market. Driving will be popular, while all-wheel drive will be an option.
The cockpit remains a mystery for now, but our photographers controlled to take a look at a nonconformist prototype. The close-ups of the rear suspension reveal surprise truck-type shock absorbers and coil springs, as well as other structural elements.
We can also see the refractive rim bent under the truck tray and the lowest trail of the exhaust system. While definitive, it seems to severely restrict off-road incursions. Ford is expected to launch the Maverick in 2021 as a 2022 model. with an initial MSRP of less than $20,000 in the United States.
