Ford warns that ‘Phone as a Key’ may not be working on some Android phones

As some users have been running into issues, Ford is saying that its “Phone as a Key” feature is running into some compatibility issues on Android devices.

In an email to customers, Ford warns that Android users may run into issues with the “Phone as a Key” feature that allows users to unlock their vehicle without a key fob. The feature, Ford says, is being impacted by “a recent Android 14 software update,” leaving the FordPass app unable to unlock vehicles reliably.

There is no express explanation about the update caused by the challenges, which is due to the fact that Android 14 has been widely that it has been had for almost a year on the devices of several Android brands. Presumably, the challenge comes from the application instead of the operating system, but it is difficult to say anything with certainty.

If you’ve been running an Android 14 device lately and you’re driving a Ford vehicle, the Phone as Key feature in your FordPass app is likely to be affected lately.

Due to a recent Android 14 software update, some users are unable to access and start their Ford vehicles using the Phone as a Key feature in their FordPass app.

We are working on a solution with third parties, and we will update you once the situation is resolved. In the interim, to start you vehicle, please use your key fob or Backup Passcode.

We for this inconvenience, and appreciate your patience. Do not eliminate or restore your phone as a key, since any of the actions will fail you.

The opinion sent to an email to Ford customers, such as that shared in a Facebook group. Users of the post report that in fact, their phone as a key capability has struggled recently, but that the main points are not shared.

Hopefully things will soon be operational again. If you run into problems, let us know in the next one!
