Gypsy Rose Blanchard, convicted of aiding in the murder of her abusive mother in a widely publicized case, announced Tuesday in a tearful YouTube video that she and her boyfriend, Ken Urker, are expecting their first child.

“I must be everything my mother wasn’t,” Blanchard, 32, said in the clip, describing the pregnancy as “a blessing. “She said she had to give birth in January.

In 2016, Blanchard was sentenced to a 10-year criminal sentence (the minimum for second-degree murder) under a plea agreement that acknowledged abusive dating with her mother. After serving about seven years, she was released in December and has since gained millions of fans on social media. media, where she has documented her private life, including her marriage to Ryan Anderson and her courtship with M. Urker. (Ms. Blanchard filed for divorce from Mr. Anderson in April. )

Blanchard’s childhood, trial and life after a crime were the subject of an HBO documentary in 2017 and a Hulu miniseries in 2019, which propelled her into the national spotlight. (Both systems described her as a victim of Munchausen syndrome through proxies, a form of abuse in which a parent manufactures an illness for a child. )Most recently, Blanchard starred in her own series on Lifetime, “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockdown. “

Blanchard denied any public fascination with his life. This week, he criticized a TikTok user who posted a video of the home in Springfield, Missouri, where his then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, stabbed his mother to death in 2015. Even though Blanchard no longer lives in the house, some social media users have filmed themselves in recent months walking past and avoiding gawking.

In the video, the user films the passing space and shows several symptoms of “prohibition of entry” in the courtyard. “People have come out,” the user wrote in an on-screen caption, referring to the space’s obvious residents. The TikTok poster responded to a request for comment. )
