Here are the most popular videos from IMDB in 2024

While this is certainly not a dual list of the “best” movies and shows of 2024, IMDB revealed the lists of the movies and shows that users have been engaging with the most on their site, based on 250 million visitors. So yes, it’s quite a sample pool.

Some are definitely among the most productive of the year, I would say some are among the worst, and maybe that’s why other people were curious. Others were things that went a little viral. Here are the lists:

It is no great shock that box office explosion Deadpool and Wolverine is on the top of the list here, as I would not expect anything else. Things get into awful territory with Joker: Folie a Deux at #4 for the entire year, a jaw-droppingly terrible film, which may have piqued curiosity as a result.

The lower profile entries on the list, at least in terms of relative box office returns, would be horror features The Substance and Longlegs, the former of which was great, the latter of which I found overrated, though it was hard to avoid its virality at launch as being some sort of revolutionary terrifying feature. It wasn’t, really. I am also a little surprised to see Civil War in there, a quality, but what I thought was an overlooked feature from the year. A notable omission is the biggest release of the year, Inside Out 2, though that may soon be eclipsed by Moana 2. And I don’t know if there’s been enough time where that film or something like Wicked could make the list.

I continue to be baffled by the interest in True Detective: Night Country. Sure, it was a return to a legendary HBO series, but it was also terrible and received intelligent reviews and Emmy nominations. And what was the most popular show of the year on IMDB? As?

The rest makes sense. Here are some of the most hyped, most-watched, and watched shows of the year, especially The Penguin, Fallout, and Shogun. At the bottom of the list are Netflix’s idle hits, The Gentleman and 3 Body Problem. Both have been renewed for a second season.

In short, attractive lists. What surprised you?
