‘Hit Man’ dethroned in Netflix’s top 10 through new movie

This article was published on 18/06 and republished on 20/06.

Movies can only last so long on Netflix’s Top 10 list, as other people eventually go beyond a two-hour adventure, and Hit Man has now lost the most sensible place there. The film with a 96% rating was universally praised but more sensible through a new film, and not a Netflix original.

That would be Tell Them You Love Me, a 2023 true crime documentary, the kind of thing that’s big on Netflix, but it’s also a miniseries, not a movie. This one is only an hour and 40 minutes long, which is probably too long. short for a three-part program.

The film is an incredible look at a complicated situation, as the description shows.

The film doesn’t have enough viewership on Rotten Tomatoes to earn a score, and a few dozen audience reviews give it an 82%. Since the most sensible is probably not widely recommended, I wouldn’t expect it to remain among the most sensible on the list for long, and it turns out that Hit Man will most likely update it again, barring any new additions.

Top 10

Hit Man has been number one so far since its release on June 7, and it’s impressive to see a movie this high on the list in recent weeks. Normally, I’d wonder if that would warrant a sequel, but the nature of The Movie and the prestige of the director, Richard Linklater, imply that this was probably planned. But I’m sure Glen Powell enjoyed directing what has arguably been the most-watched movie in the country for several weeks, probably second only to Inside Out 2. in theaters, which has just broken box office records for an animated film.

Hit Man was a rare and unequivocal win for Netflix’s original film wing, which produces widely watched but relatively poor-quality blockbusters. That wasn’t the case this time around, as the comedy was perfect on all fronts, cemented Powell as a Hollywood star, and also serves as an escape from the bench for Adria Arjona, who will soon be directing an Amazon series.

I hope Hit Man gets back to number 1 soon and Tell Them You Love Me moves on pretty quickly, but we’ll have to see.

Update (2/6): Well, it turns out I was wrong and things temporarily moved in the opposite direction. I guess I forgot how Netflix adds movies, and now Hitman is way down the list at #5, instead of coming close to retaining the most sensible spot on it.

I looked yesterday and saw that 50 Shades of Gray is now the top-performing movie on Netflix, but as of today it dropped to #2 and Tell Them You Love Me is back to #1, because I guess that really resonates. The film still has only one critically rated review, despite being the most watched film in America, illustrating the disconnect between streaming and review in those days.

Films aimed at a younger audience are part of the list at this point, Home, The LEGO Batman Movie, Ultraman Rising, Wonder and Super Mario Bros. Movie. de who I’m pretty sure has been there for 3 full months with a resistance that is just absurd. Array It’s no surprise that a sequel is coming.

As for Hit Man, it turns out that his time is up. Richard Linklater is already casting his next film with Margaret Qualley and Ethan Hawke and moving forward. I repeat, he does not want a continuation.
