Jack Charlton dead – Nicky Byrne, Piers Morgan, Keith Duffy and more celebrities pay tribute to football legend

The Irish football legend sadly passed away yesterday aged 85 after a battle with a long-term illness.

Jack died peacefully yesterday at his home in Northumberland with his family by his side.

Tributes have been flooding in for Jack across social media as they people remember some of their favourite moments watching him as the Irish manager.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan paid tribute to Jack as he called him a “fantastic character”.

He shared a snap of Jack and his brother Bobby when they won the World Cup.

Piers said in his tribute: “RIP Jack Charlton, 85. World Cup winner with his brother Bobby and one of the all-time greats of British football.

TV presenter Maia Dunphy took to her Instagram to share a snap of Jack as she said he was “an Englishman we were happy to make one of us!”

Her full tribute read: “What a man, what a legacy. An Englishman we were happy to make one of us!

“Hard to put into words what Italia ‘90 did for our little nation. Other countries might scoff at the way we celebrated and rejoiced at reaching the quarter finals, but we know… we know.

“I was lucky enough to meet Big Jack and he was as lovely as I’d hoped. Cheeky, funny and astute too. We’ll always be part of Jackie’s Army.”

Westlife star Nicky Byrne shared a cute snap of himself, his sons and his nephew previously meeting Jack at an Ireland game.

Nicky captioned the snap saying: “Thinking of Jack Charlton and his family today.

“I was honoured to have met him with my boys and nephew at an Ireland game some years ago.

“Changed Irish football forever and gave us all the most incredible lifelong memories.

“There was no better time to be an Irish football fan, young and old! Thanks Jack.”

Boyzone star Keith Duffy said that Jack gave “our nation hope, belief, passion, excitement, love, unity and honour” in his heartfelt tribute on Instagram.

He also shared a snap of Jack and said: “He gave our nation hope, belief, passion, excitement, love, unity and honour!

“We were all part of Jackie’s Army! Roy even listened when Jack spoke! Rest easy Jack and thank you for the memories.”

Fair City actor Dave O’Sullivan also paid tribute to the football legend as he similarly shared a snap of Jack from his time as manager.

Dave said: “We’re all part of Jackies Army. Rest easy big man.”
