Jason Momoa restores Lisa Bonet’s first car, a 1965 Mustang: ”14 years of manufacturing’

Jason Momoa has a special wonder for his wife, Lisa Bonet.

The 41-year-old Aquaman star shared a YouTube video of a “14-year-old manufacturing” task about restoring a 1965 mustang, Bonet’s first car he bought at the age of 17.

“I know we can’t relive a memory, but we can rebuild one,” Momoa says in the video as he shares photos of the battered white Mustang before handing it over to Divine 1 Customs in Las Vegas.

“The story is that this is the first car you’ve ever bought. It is one of the 3 that have been manufactured and with many traditional pieces,” he told the workshop team.

The actor, who married Bonet in 2017 and has two children with her, said the assignment “is a great dream come true.”

Once he saw the vehicle restored, now a bright black color with a black leather interior, he said, “I never thought it would look like this.”

“Being in the passenger seat with my wife here and astonishing her and our young children in the back, in her first car when she’s 17, I’m so glad to see her face,” she says. “It’s a long road, a long road.”

Momoa enthusiastically left his wife from his house where he awaited his reaction.

“It’s beautiful. Good heavens,” he said. “It’s beautiful. Oh, my God. It’s perfect, too flashy but enough.”

The two took a ride in the with Momoa taking the wheel while holding hands.

Momoa also shared a short clip of the video on Instagram where she wrote: “Aloha to all, it’s been 14 years. I wanted to surprise my wife with her first car she bought and bring her back to life and our family. “

In June 2019, Momoa knew the dream of building a “family legacy” for her children: a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Momoa told PEOPLE at the time: “This is my story. It’s anything that’s very expensive to me. And the undeniable fact of being able to do it with my children … I never grew up with that.”

He continued: “I come from a single mother who taught me many, many, many things, but I didn’t grow up with a father figure I was riding cars with.”

He described the motorcycle he built and the motorcycle he owns as his family’s “legacy.”

“All I have is to be at home and be a father. I don’t need to be known as my job. I was just looking to build a Harley with my kids. And I’m satisfied that my wife does me is because at the end of the day, she’s the boss,” Momoa says with a smile.
