De los Reyes died Sunday after a brief battle with cancer, according to a message received through CBS News from Lisa Goldberg, a reporter for De los Reyes’ wife, actress Sherri Saum.

De los Reyes was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Las Vegas. According to a biography provided through family, he caught the acting bug when he arrived in Los Angeles in the late ’80s. His first roles came with the role of Pedro Quinn in the 1994 off-Broadway play, “Blade to the Heat,” and Ferdinand in director George C. Wolfe’s production of “The Tempest” for Shakespeare in the Park.

“De los Reyes lived in Los Angeles, but his center never left Puerto Rico,” the family said, adding that the actor was actively involved in rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Maria in 2017.
The actor is survived by his wife Saum and their three children, Caylen, 26, and twins Michael and John, 9.
