At the London Marathon, 44 world records were broken in an eclectic range of categories, from the fastest ever achieved by a female runner to the fastest time ever achieved by a wearer dressed in flip-flops.
Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir finished the elite women’s race in two hours, 16 minutes and 16 seconds, beating the previous record of two hours, 17 minutes and one second.
And when it’s time for amateur runners to make their way along the 42-kilometer course that circles the capital, many runners dressed in flashy outfits also set their own records.
Marcus Mumford, a 45-year-old man from Worcester who was not with the singer, ran the fastest marathon for a wearer dressed in flip-flops.
Sam Hull, 44, from Bromham, Bedfordshire, ran in memory of his late father and raised money for the Sue Ryder charity in recognition of his family’s victory, dressed as a tennis player.

And Lee Baynton, 39, from Essex, set the fastest time ever recorded for an inflatable suit.
Some runners have set records without suits, such as Anthony Bryan, 34, of north London, who achieved the fastest time for a wearer thanks to a man paralyzed on one side of his body.
Bryan broke the record in just one minute and said after finishing the race: “It was tough. They gave us 20 miles and I had a bad cramp in my leg and I thought I wasn’t going to finish it. “
“My race advisor told Ant, ‘We might not make it, you’ve got to run. ‘”
The record holders were joined on the tour by numerous prominent politicians and personalities.

Among them were Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who winced after crossing the finish line, and McFly batter Harry Judd.
TV presenter Joel Dommett was among those who wore dresses, as he wore the Piranha dress worn by McFly’s Danny Jones in the first series of The Masked Singer UK.
Russ “Hardest Geezer” Cook, who finished touring across Africa on April 7, put his shoes back on to hit the streets.
He has raised money for the Running Charity and has also helped other young people with the challenge.
In total, more than 50,000 people ran the marathon and the rain contained, and runners enjoyed dry and bright situations with maximum temperatures of 12°C.
In the elite men’s race, Great Britain’s Emile Cairess and Mahamed Mahamed finished third and fourth respectively.
