Lucy Hale is certainly no stranger to bold hairstyles. But lately, in light of the pandemic, the former Pretty Little Liars star has resorted to mostly wearing ponytails, hats, and super low-maintenance styles just like the rest of us. This weekend, though, the 31-year-old actress took to Instagram to remind her fans just how much she loves experimenting with daring hair looks by way of a brand-new photo from a shoot in which she’s wearing — as you can tell by the title — a makeshift mohawk. A faux-hawk, if you will.

Taken prior to the COVID-19 crisis, the photo in question showcases Hale wearing an edgy black-and-white ensemble, silver statement earrings, and a soft yet sultry smoky eye courtesy of her go-to makeup girl Kelsey Deenihan, who clearly kept Hale’s look fairly minimal to let the faux-hawk be the focal point. That being said, with the majority of her strands swept out of her face and the side pieces slicked back, the hairstyle also puts Hale’s stunning features front and center. (Ahem, those brows though.)

As for the creator of Hale’s high-voltage hairstyle, that would be none other than her longtime stylist and good friend, Kristin Ess, who’s responsible for just about every incredible hair look we’ve ever seen on the actress. Remember the time she used a pearl earring to accessorize Hale’s updo at the Critics’ Choice Awards? Because personally, we’ll never forget it. Ess has yet to share how she created this look, but Allure reached out for details and will be updating this piece when, and if, we hear back.

Additionally, Hale shared two other photos from the shoot, one in which she’s wearing a chunky bright-green barrette that matches her outfit. Check out both of the stunning images, below.

Needless to say, we can’t wait to see more adventurous hair looks from Hale in the future. For now, though, we might just consider learning how to master the fake mohawk.
