Whether it belongs to you or a deceased family member, it’s easy to tell if your state owes you money. Read on to learn how to know if you have unclaimed assets and how to recover them. You can find out if a state has assets for you with a NAUPA search tool. Their map of the United States provides links to each state’s online page for unclaimed assets. It also includes links to asset search teams for Washington, D. C. , Puerto Rico, the U. S. Virgin Islands. USA and some Canadian provinces. Be sure to check each state, territory, or district you’ve lived in to see if you have anything to claim.
In maximum cases, you will be redirected to a page where you can directly search for unclaimed assets; in others, you may want to click from a home page to the search page for unclaimed assets.
Usually, you will only have to provide your last call to search for a property, adding your first call, location or address will help narrow down the search.
Two other loose ones, MissingMoney. com and FindMyMoney, offer search engines built into their websites, but not for all states. MissingMoney. com allows you to search in 41 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Alberta, Canada, while FindMyMoney provides its own search tool for 28 states and Washington, D. C. FindMyMoney is connected to state search engines for the other 23 states.
Some states, such as Ohio, work with MissingMoney. com to allow others to search for assets and register claims. Once the claim has been registered in MissingMoney. com, the state manages the communication, verification, and final payment of the claim.
There is no federal formula for claiming your assets: the procedure varies from state to state. And lately you don’t want to live in a state to claim your assets, so check out other places where you lived.
Most states use a formula for an online grocery shopping service, in which you upload an asset to claim and then “verify” by offering information like your current address and Social Security number to verify your identity and it turns out that you are the legitimate propietario. de the goods.

Some states will allow you to provide supporting documents online, while others require you to present yourself by mail. The New York Comptroller’s Office online page states that online claims for Americans are paid within two weeks. Claims for deceased Americans will take 4 to 6 weeks and mailed claims will take 3 to 4 months to process.
After an express “inactivity period,” one to three years, corporations will send cash and assets to offices of unclaimed assets controlled throughout the state when they are unable to locate the owner. The state will then keep those items until their owner claims them.
