Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming Enola Holmes film, and that sounds like a lot of fun. Based on Nancy Springer’s eBook The Enola Holmes Mysteries, the film adds a touch to the Sherlock Holmes story by creating a sister for the infamous detective. Enola, played by Stranger Things star Millie Bobthrough Brown, is much younger than her two older brothers, but no less talented. And if that’s not enough, the film digs Henry Cavill off sherlock while Sam Claflin plays the role of Mycroft Holmes.
Jack Thorne, whose diversity of credits from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to The Aeronauts, wrote the script while Emmy-winning Director Fleabag Harry Bradbeer is in the director’s chair.
Obviously, this is just a kind of teaser ad, because we have a brief glimpse of Brown on paper, but is it a riff of Hole’s “Celebrity Skin”? Do I hear at the end there? Daniel Pemberton (Birds of Prey, Spider-Verse) is on duty, which makes sense.
The other mystery is the film’s release date. Until now, everything we knew about September, and even inside the trailer, does not reveal the full date. But the tweet in the trailer says:
“Only loshme reeebtpms wnettyrhitd”
It takes Sherlock (or Enola) Holmes to break this: it says “Enola Holmes the twenty-three of September”. So here it is, this new movie will be released on Netflix on September 23.
I think a full preview will be launched soon, but for now, look at Enola Holmes’ trailer below.
