The U. S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) recently announced a second round of $504 million in implementation grants for 12 generation centers. This investment will help Main Street accelerate the expansion of industries across the United States.
This program was created under the CHIPS and Science Act with the purpose of helping communities beyond the classic coastal regions of generation reap the benefits of innovation and generational development, boosting regional economies from behind and in between. Last year, President Biden announced the designation of 31 generation centers in communities across the country, each bringing together a combination of businesses, state, local, and tribal governments, educational institutions, hard-working unions, and nonprofits that have a shared vision for regional economic growth.
The next phase of investment identifies 12 winners of implementation grants of up to $51 million to help boost and grow industries in regions across 14 states. Some of the generation centers include:
“All Americans deserve the opportunity to thrive, no matter where they live. Today’s announcement that the Department of Commerce is making a $504 million investment in regional generation and innovation hubs across the country will ensure that the long-term benefits of industries – from synthetic intelligence and blank energy to biogeneration and more – are shared with communities that have been ignored for too long. adding rural, tribal, industrial and disadvantaged communities,” said Vice President Kamala Harris when pronouncing the second funding circular.
“These most productive Tech Hub leaders exemplify place-based economic progression strategies: combining federal resources with regional assets, expertise, and coalitions to implement transformative opportunities,” said Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Progress Alejandra Y. Castillo. “We are excited to see that this first investment circular launched will help usher in a wave of new jobs, new technologies and new momentum for America’s competitiveness. »
A common topic of discussion in an election year is the fact that so many communities have been left behind when it comes to economic expansion and opportunity. The Tech Hubs program aims to address those disparities by breathing new life into some of those spaces by supporting entrepreneurship and innovation. Together, these centers will ensure that long-term industries – and the countless jobs and small business opportunities they create – start, grow, and stay in the United States.
