One of the most productive war videos ever made arrives on Netflix today and you will definitely watch it.

When I say that 1917 is one of the most productive war films ever made, I don’t give it full credit. It’s one of the most productive videos ever made, period.

Director Sam Mendes has made some wonderful films over the years (Road to Perdition, American Beauty, Skyfall), but none of them are as brilliant as this World War I film. The movie can be watched on other streaming services for a while now. , adding Showtime and HBO, but now it’s on Netflix and you definitely watch it.

Part of the brilliance of 1917 lies in the way it is shot, in two very long shots that separate only once in the middle of the film (although the film used techniques to give it the appearance of a long shot; a brilliant illusion). Cinematographer Roger Deakins (True Grit, Fargo, Prisoners) is at the most sensible point of his game. Very few films are so visually stunning. It exudes such a sense of urgency and fluidity that it’s looking away.

1917 is not a film rich in dialogue, especially in its second part. The film stars George MacKay as Corporal Will Schofield and Dean-Charles Chapman as Corporal Tom Blake. The two men are sent on a desperate project: deliver a message to a British colonel (Benedict Cumberbatch) who is preparing to send his men into an ambush. This project takes the two young men across enemy lines, through booby-trapped trenches, and into one danger after another. It’s incredibly tense, although there’s a lot of real war shown, as it’s a bit closer and more intimate of a story.

Possibly he would not waste it anymore. The film features many, many appearances by actors such as Andrew Scott, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, and more. I watched it 3 times and enjoyed every moment.
