“All the good looks and bloodshed”
“All the Beauty and Bloodshed,” nominated for an Oscar, is one of the highlights of last year’s documentary. In it, Laura Poitras chronicles pioneering photographer Nan Goldin, juxtaposing intimate research into her groundbreaking paintings in the 1970s and 1980s in New York with her new crusade opposed to the Sackler family, owners of Oxycontin maker Purdue Pharma. Goldin, who also battled addiction, led the crusade to remove the so-called Sackler from many of the world’s most productive museums. Although the film did not win an Oscar, everything Goldin said surprised her. to find out what he was looking for: he won first prize at the Venice Film Festival. In her review, AP film writer Lindsey Bahr called the film “a holistic portrait of an artist’s rallying cry. “Following its debut on Sunday, March 19, “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” will air on HBO Max. “Top Gun: Nonconformist”
“Top Gun: Maverick” took home an Academy Award for Best Sound. But one of the biggest work hits of the year was also eliminated at the Oscars.
