Is the evergreen star now the bet of the blockbusters?
Top Gun: Maverick is officially a global boxing phenomenon, breaking several records since its launch last month.
With $900 million in global transportation, it not only surpassed Top Gun’s original profit ($440 million after adjusting for inflation) when an F/A-18 passed a parked car, but it was also Tom Cruise’s biggest blockbuster. It dethrones Cruise’s former largest cash producer, 2017’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which charges $787 million worldwide.
Cruise’s career, of course, spans four decades, with his pre-box office paintings aimed at low-budget dramas like Cocktail and Risky Business. made with small budgets of $20 million (a mere fraction of Top Gun: Maverick’s planned budget of $170 million).
