Real Madrid wins UEFA’s top prize money with $146 million in 2022

GENEVA (AP) — Champions League champions Real Madrid won UEFA’s top prize money last season with 133. 7 million euros ($146. 4 million).

Madrid’s total included a base payment for organisation-level entry, functionality bonuses, a percentage of Spanish-language broadcast rights and an additional payment for clubs’ all-time records in UEFA competitions.

Liverpool, who lost the final to Madrid, momentarily finished in the prize table with a total of 120 million euros ($131. 4 million) of the UEFA Champions League prize of more than 2 billion euros ($2. 2 billion).

Only two other clubs have won nine-figure sums: Bayern Munich received nearly 110 million euros ($120. 4 million) despite losing in the quarterfinals, while semifinalist Manchester City earned nearly 109 million euros ($119 million).

Paris Saint-Germain’s knockout loss to Madrid means it received 92 million euros ($100. 7 million) through UEFA.

UEFA said the 32 clubs at the level earned an average of 61. 8 million euros ($67. 7 million), with the lowest paying being 23. 7 million euros ($26 million) to Moldovan champion Sheriff.
