BRADLEY BEACH – Renovations have begun on the Main Street movie theater, which will soon house The Bradley.
The Bradley aims to reopen the theater through 2025 with a new, refreshed logo. The venue was purchased through Cinema Lab in 2022 after the former business, The Showroom Cinema, closed due to the economic effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Monday, July 29, Cinema Lab presented a long-awaited update to its 332 backers who pledged $65,090 on Kickstarter, informing investors of the major milestone: “construction starts today!
The update read, “We would like to sincerely thank you for your unwavering help and patience. We recognize that this task has taken longer than expected and deeply appreciate your understanding on this journey.
The first level of renovations that began on the eve of August included the removal of the theater’s old chairs as Cinema Lab representatives prepared for a complete renovation of the historic venue.
Luke Parker-Bowles, chief executive of Cinema Lab, told The Coast Star: “It shows, if I may be so self-deprecating, our fondness for the fact that we promised to deliver even though it takes a while. Excessively long time compared to what we expected. Array We’re really into this, we’re really into the region and we’re really excited about it. The most productive things are rarely the most difficult to achieve.
According to Parker-Bowles, the Bradley is at full steam while demolition is underway and the plans are drawn up and in working order.
After a series of other designs and distributions, Cinema Lab attorney Jennifer F. Krimko detailed the site’s plan at the May 16 Land Use Board meeting. The modified site plan includes two halls, with a larger main hall with 186 seats and a smaller hall. at the back of the construction that will be used for personal parties and screenings. Krimko clarified that the smaller theater does not have constant seating and will not allow any interference between screenings and will contribute to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility.
Bradley Beach Business and Community Alliance President Paula Gavin told the Coast Star, “The Bradleys and Cinema Lab team are active members of the Bradley Beach Business and Community Alliance and support our events and work on the network paintings. We are very pleased that the theatre will open in 2025 and provide a stunning venue for netpainting events. Their enthusiasm to collaborate with our local businesses is also encouraging and they have already reached out to Alliance members to share ideas. In fact, it will be a center for netpainting.
In addition to the theater, the Bradley will have a 27-seat bar and café that will allow visitors to grab drinks and dine before or after watching a movie at the Main Street Historic Site. The Bradley will partner with local restaurants to supply food to visitors, bringing downtown and a taste of Hollywood to Bradley Beach.
