If there’s one star who never fails to offer the ultimate impressive look of the Met Gala, it’s Rihanna. From an architectural floral rosette through Comme de Garéons to a John Galliano heavily decorated with a papal mitra, RiRi’s looks are among the best productive in fashion history. But one of her most iconic outfits, the 55-pound dress that came to the cover of Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei, not even on the red carpet at the Met Gala.
More than five years after Rihanna made her debut in over-the-top confectionery at the 2015 Met Gala, the star told Access that she had her car around the Metropolitan Museum of Art 3 times before leaving because she was so nervous about the reaction of the world.
“I was so excited to get out of that car because I felt like “I do too many things.” I walked past the red car and only saw dresses,” she says.

‘I like it, ‘Oh my God, I’m a clown, other people are going to laugh at me.’ It’s too much. Thought. I turned around like three times, I’m not even kidding. Eventually I like it, anyway, ” continued Rihanna.
Taking the resolve to pass out in the red car was not your only challenge. Physically getting out of the car and stairs with a thick blouse was also very difficult for Rihanna. “The choreography to get in the car and get out, we had to choreograph it. Who’s sitting at the door, where the coat goes, where I sit,” he explained.
In the end, despite her nerves at the carpet, Rihanna is satisfied that she has followed the design of the statement. “I don’t,” she says.
CONNECTIONS: The Met Gala Looks All Time
In 2015, Pei, who designed the dress for Rihanna, told WWD that she was surprised that the singer opted for the yellow Canary dress.
“I didn’t really think she dressed well for her, ” said Pei. “I think it would be too heavy and too hot, but she got very excited the moment she put it on.”
