The Harbour Bar is known to others around the world as the classic yellow and red ice cream and smoothie bar that is as popular today as it opened in 1945.

Owner Giulian Alonzi’s circle of relatives started the business and earlier this year he opted for something new to help recover from the pandemic.

Scarborough’s well-known Harbour Bar celebrates its anniversary

Scarborough Council’s Licensing Department now has the request.

Speaking last month, Mr. Alonzi told the Local Democracy Information Service: “We need to make smoothies and ice creams containing alcohol, that’s why we’ve applied. We would also like to sell prosecco and wine.

“When you go abroad, you can go down and have your ice cream and a glass of wine, so we figured out why not in Scarborough. At the end of the day, we are glaciers, a circle of family businesses, it is not a pub and I do not think that we sell anything that anyone finds too reprehensible ».

The company, which celebrated its 75th anniversary on August 1, implemented a pavement license to install tables and chairs at the front of the building.

The license will allow Harbour Bar to sell alcohol between 9am and 10:30pm seven days a week.
