In a rare scrap of unexpected good news, Taylor Swift announced on Thursday that she would release her eighth studio album, Folklore, tonight at midnight, writing on Twitter that the album is composed of “songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”

The album was written and recorded completely in isolation—making it perhaps the first true musical artifact of quarantine—and includes collaborations with the National band member Aaron Dessner, Bon Iver, William Bowery, and Jack Antonoff.

“Before this year, I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed,” Swift wrote on Twitter. “My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world.” Swift is pairing the album release with the drop of a brand-new music video for her song “Cardigan,” which Swift wrote and directed herself.

We’ve only got about 14 hours until Folklore drops, which gives us plenty of time to refresh ourselves on Swift’s most recent album Lover—and, of course, rewatch her Netflix documentary Miss Americana, which will always be remembered for providing us with the valuable information that Swift occasionally wears her cat in a backpack.
