“Taking up the torch”: the government suggested “refining” corporate law reforms

Herbert Smith Freehills Partner Tony Damian says reforms to Australian corporate laws are “not too bad” but welcomes the government to “pick up the mantle”.

“Our legislation isn’t that bad on that front,” Damian told Sky News business editor Ross Greenwood.

“This year there will be a total reform of mergers and I think it will be the most interesting.

“The non-mergers side of our corporate laws, in terms of mergers and acquisitions, is in a bad position; It is possible that some reforms and innovations will simply take place.

“We would love for them to take over on this issue. “
