How is the artist’s residence in Florence?
I have enjoyed being in Florence so far. It is the first time I return to Italy after seventeen years of absence. I especially try to take advantage of this time to return to practices that I had left aside in the recent past, such as running on clay and checking out. Put the subjects of my drawings in 3 dimensions. I also had the opportunity to return to printing techniques such as engraving. Il Bisonte, a very old printing laboratory, invited us to stop there and practice with them; The last time I worked with this medium was more than 13 years ago. I try not to digitize my practice and myself and go back to more biological tactics of creating art.
You also open your own artist in Lagos, Nigeria. In your opinion, what do artists gain from residencies?
Residencies offer the opportunity to travel to another country while maintaining one’s practice; Working and researching while traveling offers an engaging way to dive deeper into your surroundings. It’s a fast track to connect with other people and places while collaborating.
Do you have adventurous hobbies outside of art?
I love biking, and now I love biking with my daughter Mathilda! This is the ultimate adventure I have experienced so far. But I’m thinking about spending more time in nature, maybe walking in the mountains.
Now you are raising a girl. Do you let her into the studio when you work?
This is a question I also ask myself: When will I be able to share the studio with Mathilda? At this time, she is too young, and I guess the time in the studio is my time at this time. I hope that when I grow up, we can We can share more artistic time together.
Growing up, did you know you would be an artist?
I guess. I have been in the artistic aspect and naturally followed the path I set out to follow. It is also a thank you to my parents, who have supported their children’s inclinations.
