On a chilly February morning, Betches Media, the Gen Z millennial female comedy company best known for its Instagram memes, was celebrating its 13th anniversary, which its three co-founders had thankfully dubbed their “bech mitzvah. “
There would be a toast and cake for its workers (there are 63 full-time workers) at the company’s Flatiron district office, but the most common case is an inside joke, said Sami Sage, its logo manager.
“There is no Torah,” said Jordana Abraham, the comedy’s director, impassively speaking.
When it comes to coming-of-age stories, Betches has a positive in a virtual media landscape without many of them. The company, which was one of the first to take an interest in the phenomenon of viral content as the basis of virtual media. It has never asked for foreign investment, unlike most of its peers. Ms. Abraham, 34, Ms. Sage and CEO Aleen Dreksler, both 35, have known each other since they were in fifth grade in the affluent Long Island suburb of Roslyn.
