Some movies are simply better on the big screen, and Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi masterpiece “Interstellar” is indeed one of them. I still can’t forget seeing this incredible area epic in theaters upon its original release in 2014, and it literally blew me away with its stunning cinematography and stunning sound design (not to mention its fantastic music).
Earlier this week, my social media channels were filled with rumors that Paramount had canceled a planned theatrical re-release and that the studio had destroyed all of the original 70mm IMAX copies of the film. Thankfully, this turned out to be as shown by Variety, that “Interstellar” would return to theaters on Friday, December 6.
It’s a real Christmas treat, whether you noticed “Interstellar” or not. Not only is it arguably Nolan’s most productive film to date (which says a lot about his filmography), but it’s also the most productive sci-fi film of the last 20 years, delivering thrills and deep emotional stakes in a Modern and amazing package. .
If you missed the hype surrounding 2014’s “Interstellar,” or just want a refresher on why this epic sci-fi movie is so special, here are all the highlights of this cinematic masterpiece. . .
Set in an extremely believable future, “Interstellar” takes audiences to an Earth that is becoming uninhabitable due to failing global crops. But humanity’s most productive and brilliant are desperately seeking to find a solution to save humanity, even if it means reaching for the stars. One of the physicists searching for a solution is Professor Brand (Michael Caine), who works at a secret NASA base.
Brand hatches an ambitious plan to send Earth’s population to a new home through a wormhole, but to test the suitability of the three planets deemed potentially problematic, a team of researchers, led by Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), will have to venture across the galaxy. to locate a new position for our species to establish.
The crew’s adventure is full of danger and takes them beyond space and time. As they face new difficulties and the prospect that their efforts will be in vain, Cooper and his colleagues, including Dr. Ameila Brand (Anne Hathaway), wonder what the very purpose of the project is and their motivations.
Since its debut a decade ago, I’ve rewatched “Interstellar” many times in local media, and while it sure looks amazing on 4K Blu-ray, it just can’t fully mirror the big-screen experience at home, which is why I’m thrilled that “Interstellar” is returning to its position this holiday season.
There are so many series in “Interstellar” that deserve to be noticed on an IMAX screen, however, the iconic scene on an ocean planet rocked by tidal waves the size of skyscrapers is the most sensible on the list. I’m also looking forward to returning to the frozen world where Cooper meets Mann (Matt Damon), a surviving NASA explorer, because this part of the movie features some truly incredible shots (and an epic narrative twist, too). . Not to mention, this welcome series was literally designed for a theatrical audio setup.
Of course, “Interstellar” is much more than striking sci-fi images and surprising camera work; It has remained popular even a decade later due to its very human storytelling and deeply compelling characters. I’m equally excited to relive the heartbreaking relationship between Cooper and his daughter (Jessica Chastain), and it will bring me to tears for the umpteenth time.
Perhaps the only thing that saddens me with this news is that there are still several months to go before “Interstellar” returns to theaters. (If you can’t wait that long, you can stream it on Prime Video. )I’m in a position to see it. This unforgettable sci-fi epic is on the big screen right now. But I’ve waited almost 10 years for it to come back to the big screen, I can wait a few more months.
In the meantime, there are still a few movies left in the summer season, adding my most anticipated movie of the year, “Alien: Romulus,” and those deserve to keep me busy until “Interstellar” returns to theaters. where it actually belongs.
