Supply chain disruptions have shaken brands and stores during the pandemic. With unpredictable and shipping disruptions and production restrictions leading to order delays, brands missed grocery shopping seasons in 2020 and 2021. Since then, supply chain roles have become one of the peaks in demand in the industry to protect fashion corporations from instability. But, amid a global skills shortage, which still persists, brands are competing in a challenging environment to attract and retain the most productive candidates.
The fashion origin chain is extensive, with positions ranging from apparel and artisans to corporate roles in logistics and warehousing, to the origin chain manager. (a domain in which some corporations hire committed leaders to navigate the complexities of compliance) and customs regulations (e. g. , the U. S. ban on goods from China’s Xinjiang region).
Pandemic disruptions have made jobs like stock management, purchasing, and logistics among the most in-demand in luxury retail, says Lisa Sallstrom, executive vice president of products and facilities at the nonprofit Supply Chain Management Association (ASCM). In addition, the preservation of craftsmanship has become an even higher priority for luxury brands, as craftsmanship shrinks with each generation.
“Supply chain resilience has come to the forefront since the pandemic: perceiving how companies can temporarily pivot to perceive their needs, become more resilient to immediate market changes, and have a contingency plan to fall back on so they can be better prepared for the next disruption that would possibly occur,” Sallstrom said. “The increase in skill has been of paramount importance. In reality, it is transparent that having a professional and competent workforce is a competitive advantage.
While supply chain skill categories vary, experts say brands that rent in one of the demand categories can gain advantages from a positive work-life balance and opportunities for career progression or progression. Experts note a buildup at the festival for supply chain roles and a need for specialized wisdom such as supply chain generation and sustainability, corporations deserve to try to improve task satisfaction.
