“The Open House” is Netflix’s worst original movie, according to critics

Netflix is the world’s largest video-on-demand service. It has 231 million international subscribers and made profits of $7. 8 billion in the latest quarter. Founded in 1997 as a DVD-by-mail service, it has become one of the largest movie and TV video libraries in the world. (These are the Netflix original videos and most-watched TV screens of all time)

Equally impressive, it has remodeled itself into the equivalent of a Hollywood studio, spawning its own movies and series directed by top managers and starring top actors. Some of those movies charge upwards of $100 million to produce. Despite this kind of investment, Netflix produces extraordinarily bad movies. The worst of those Netflix original movies is “The Open House. “

“The Open House” premiered in 2018. Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote directed, wrote and produced this mystery about a woman and her son who move into a space inhabited by malevolent forces. Shaun Munro of Flickering Myth said the film is “practically tension-free horror film and depressingly sweet”. The film won incredibly poor reviews from critics; its IMDb user score is 3. 2/10′ and its Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 8%.

How bad is “The Open House”? A Den of Geek critic wrote of the film: “Beyond some minor technical achievements. . . The open space is horrible (here’s a list of Netflix’s worst original movies).
