From the moment you are born — even though you can’t yet speak — astrologers believe that much about how you’ll interact with other people you come across in life is already mapped out. That’s because the date, location, and time of birth are necessary in creating your birth chart, which is the primary tool astrologers use to assess many aspects of our personalities, including how we communicate and relate to each other.

We all have a burning desire to understand ourselves and those we love — from how we approach arguments with partners, to whether or not we’re comfortable with attention — so many of us look toward the stars for clues. The PEW Research Center conducted a study in 2017 that found 29 percent of Americans truly believe in astrology, and these believers have contributed to a booming industry.

However, Black astrologers, energy healers, and tarot card readers alike are underrepresented within the field, and likely on your social media feeds as well. As we’re all working together to expand our awareness and create a digital space that reflects the world we live in, Allure has rounded up six black astrologers for you to follow and support.

Superstar astrologer Mecca Woods, based in New York, has been featured in the likes of Popsugar, Essence, Refinery29, and more for her spot-on monthly horoscopes, compatibility readings, and life coaching. She also co-hosts the astro-podcast ‘Stars on Fire’ and teaches country-wide workshops on personal development. Woods tells Allure that she felt called to become a professional astrologer “about a decade ago after realizing how it could be used as a tool for self-development.”

Her work exists at the intersection of self-care and social justice. “In pairing my love for astrology with my desire to help others, I’ve built my career on the cornerstones of self-care, personal fulfillment, and social justice. One of the reasons why I love the work I do is because I get the chance to remind people — many of whom come from marginalized communities — how special they are, based on their innate gifts, so they can live their lives from a more empowered place,” she says.

Adama Sesay, astrologist and founder of LilithAstrology.com, is an NYC-based astrologer who learned to master the art of manifestation using cosmic energy. She aptly says that it has transformed her life and outlook. Her site and Instagram is named after the True Black Moon Lilith, a divine feminine energy and placement in the astrological chart, which can also be the source of limiting beliefs or power struggles if left unchecked. Lilith mythology represents a woman who wants to be accepted for who she is and treated as an equal.

“I work heavily with Lilith while integrating the full astrological chart. My speciality is providing real solutions and action items for every client from my readings. It’s my life mission with my readings, webinars, events and social media to help remove old patterns and blockages that are preventing progress and growth in your life,” she explains.

As the creator of @ElysianSpiritTarot, Ashawnee DuBarry is an intuitive tarot reader who works with women to teach them how to find their own inner goddess. Through her work, she aims to heal those who identify as misfits, and yearn to find their place in the world by becoming the best version of themselves.

“The work I do is geared towards using the tools given to us from the Divine, like astrology and tarot, to pinpoint our strengths and weaknesses, all so that we can become our best most authentic selves. I’m also a huge advocate for mental health awareness, especially in the Black community,” DuBarry tells Allure.

Wanica, of @msastrology and the owner of 1111Astrology.com, wants to teach you astrology in a way that’s useful to you by helping you first understand your own natal chart. “I teach people how to flow with the energies of the cosmos. Astrology is an ancient language that I am grateful to speak,” she says.

You can book readings with her through her site, or watch her useful videos on social media to learn how health, wellness, and self-preservation can be harbored through the stars.

Long-time astrologer Samuel F. Reynolds teaches and consults full-time. Reynolds was previously a skeptic, according to his website, who had a life-changing reading 23 years ago that made him a believer. Since then, he’s spent over two decades teaching, studying, writing, and teaching astrology.

“Sometimes life comes at us from so many directions that it’s hard to know where to focus and when,” he explains. “My astrology sessions help clients to prioritize and when to direct their intentions for better results. I’m an astrologer who combines street-wise insights with heavenly movements for smarter, healthier, and more prosperous living.”

Aquarius Maximus is a fact-lover, and it’s this trait that, at first, made her feel critical and disbelieving of astrology and tarot. However, as she delved deeper into the world, she realized tarot card reading is the embodiment of the law of attraction. On her Instagram, you’ll discover card readings related to day-to-day news, celebrity gossip, eclipses, and more, explaining how the current placements in the sky coordinate with these events.

Maximus practices cardology, which, as she explains, combines basic astrology with the classic deck of playing cards we’re all familiar with. “I am one of the Founding Members of the International Association of Cardology, a global community that studies the ancient mystical science of playing cards. It’s extremely accurate for predicting events right down to the day and it’s based on an Egyptian/Atlantean calendar.”

No matter your personal views on astrology, it’s difficult not to see a post about your star sign and think, “Wow, that is true!” While these suggestions are a great start, there’s an entire universe out there brimming with helpful astrologers, tarot readers, and energy healers to discover. All you have to do is start scrolling and your worldview will expand.
