Things to know about Sam Thompson, the ‘I’m a Celebrity 2023’ winner and reality TV star

I’m a Celebrity 2023 ended dramatically on December 10 and Sam Thompson declared the winner of the ITV show.

Contestants at this year’s Bushtucker Trials included former Nigel Farage, Jamie Lynn Spears, Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard, This Morning host Josie Gibson and YouTube star Nella Rose.

But in the end, it was TV personality Sam Thompson who was crowned King of the Jungle, beating the other two remaining contestants, Tony Bellew and Nigel Farage, in the finale.

The former Made in Chelsea star, who is dating TV personality Zara McDermott, is following in the footsteps of English footballer Jill Scott, who was crowned queen of the jungle last year.

Sam Thompson is known for his appearance on Made in Chelsea from 2013 to 2021. His other reality TV appearances include Celebrity Big Brother, in which he came third, as well as Celebrity Coach Trip and Celebs Go Dating.

In addition to his television work, Thompson hosts a Sunday radio show on Hits Radio and is co-host of the podcast Love Island: The Morning After.

Thompson has been a fan of Love Island over the years and is even a regular panelist on Love Island: Aftersun.

Her partner, Zara McDermott, rose to fame after her on Love Island in 2018 and recently competed on Strictly Come Dancing 2023.

Talking about her support for him joining the series, he said: “My girlfriend is really happy for me, too. She is proud. We haven’t chatted too much about it in the run-up as she has been doing Strictly and I haven’t wanted to make it about me.”

 

 

The biggest misconception you need to dispel in the jungle: “Since I was 21, I’ve spent my entire life on TV and so I feel like if other people have a smart or bad opinion of me, it’s probably justified!”

Best and worst attributes: “I’d like to think I’m the court jester and I don’t take things too seriously, so if you’re having a bad day, I’d like to make you smile. Worse? I’m quite forgetful and have a hard time concentrating on things.

Sam Thompson said he was “very excited” to be a part of I’m a Celebrity.

“It feels like a dream,” he said before his appearance on the show.

He added: “I feel like a winner of a contest participating. It was a resounding ‘yes’ when I approached. In fact, they didn’t even want to ask! I’m a big fan of the show.

The TV personality was looking to make “lifelong friends” at the camp and insisted that no task would be too difficult for him.

Thompson explained, “You can’t get bored there, it’s a jungle. I’ll never do that again, so I need to be “in the moment” and enjoy everything. When I’m 80 years old, I need to be in Tell My Grandchildren Everything.
