(ABC 6 News) – In a vote Wednesday, the U. S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would ban TikTok in the U. S. if the parent company, in China, didn’t sell the app.
And now, local TikTok influencers are speaking out when reacting to the news. It is on this platform that prominent Tiktokers have made a call and combined emotions about the possible ban.
For around 170 million Americans, TikTok is an app that many use on a daily basis. Whether it’s for learning, entertainment, or even content creation, it has indeed had an effect on the country.
“I think we would miss a lot of opportunities for so many people,” said Sierra Diller, who grew up in Kasson, Minnesota. It has since gone viral on TikTok, following his decision to amputate his foot. “It’s simply about bringing complete strangers together so they can share common reviews or inform each other. “
The U. S. House of Representatives has made good on its long-standing promises to ban the social media app due to security considerations similar to selling sensitive data. Some who have had their moment or moments of glory on the app are taking the time to think about it. How long term without that meaning.
“To be honest, I’m not worried about wasting it,” said Dr. Grant Collins of Collins Orthodontist. His TikTok account, That Braces Guy, has over 4. 7 million fans and life without TikTok is a worrying waste of time. “I just know that everything will be okay. “
But for others, like Eddie Swartzentruber, who documents his former life among the Amish on TikTok, it’s an overreach of the federal government’s component and people’s rights under the First Amendment.
“They say China has all their data and how scary it is,” Swartzentruber said. “When I don’t really accept that very giant corporations share this data anymore, so I don’t know what the difference is. “
While this ban is pending, the three content creators agree that it has benefited many, for other reasons.
“TikTok holds a special position in my heart. It’s anything we use to succeed in a lot of people, to help a lot of people. Word gets out about braces, orthodontists and the total culture we have here,” Collins said. .
“A lot of other people commented on a video or messaged me and told me they had never heard of the Amish community. Obviously, without TikTok, they wouldn’t have heard of the Amish community,” Swartzentruber added.
“So I can teach other people what I learned in my amputation procedure through how communities can be discovered,” Diller said.
So if you’re looking for information on how to laugh or just pass the time, all we can do now is wait for the U. S. Senate to approve it in committee and in the Senate for a vote.
