Transformers movies in order: chronological and premiere

Whether you’re on the side of Optimus Prime and his Autobots, or the infamous Megatron and his Decepticons, enter our list of Transformers videos in order.

Before we start the movie, it’s worth noting that there are several other continuities when it comes to the Transformers movies. In fact, it’s safe to say that there’s more to the Transformers timeline than meets the eye. . . OK, let’s go. The original 1986 animated film is the only one in the G1 continuity, followed by the five most sensible live-action films, also known as the Michael Bay era.

Alongside these, there’s now also the rebooted live-action timeline, which includes the two most recent films: Bumblebee and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. They were meant to be prequels to existing live-action films, but at some point they split into their own project.

Plus, the upcoming Transformers One is about to load up a fourth timeline that we can juggle. So while we sort our list of Transformers videos in chronological order, we’re also separating the 3 timelines for the sake of our sanity.

If you need to know how each of the movies on this list compare, also check out our list of Transformers movies ranked from worst to best, while creditors don’t miss our LEGO Icons Optimus Prime review.

We’ve tried to give spoilers in this list beyond the underlying premise of each film and some tidbits and references, but if you need to go as blind as possible, follow the bulleted list below.

The precise dates on which those films are set are never mentioned. Instead, they are all present, so we have indexed the year in which they were released.

The first Transformers movie is the culmination of the G1 cartoon we all know and love, and it’s also remembered for featuring electronic music composed by Vince DiCola and songs by Stan Bush and “Weird Al” Yankovic. It is also a traumatic experience for a whole generation of young people due to the death of many consecrated characters.

The story is set in 2005, about 20 years after the second season of the original TV series. After a Decepticon attack on Autobot City, Optimus Prime wins a fatal duel with Megatron, but in the end suffers fatal injuries and dies. The Decepticons retreat and the Autobots are chased across the galaxy through Unicron, the planet-sized transformer who intends to consume Cybertron and also transfigures Megatron into an enslaved Galvatron.

Originally conceived as a prequel to Michael Bay’s Transformers saga, Bumblebee later became the first chapter of a new continuity that sought to get closer to the original captivating story of the first Transformers cartoons and spread a new story.

The narrative begins in 1987, when the Autobots are about to lose their war against the Decepticons and flee their home planet, Cybertron. Autobot scout B-127 is sent to Earth in front of the main Autobot refugee organization to identify a base. operations, however, the Decepticons Shatter and Dropkick follow. On Earth, he meets human teenager Charlene “Charlie” Watson (Hailee Steinfeld), who befriends him and names him “Bumblebee”.

The newest Transformers movie is a direct sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee (as the post-credits scene suggests). Although some manufacturers claim that those films still serve as prequels to Michael Bay’s films, almost everything in them directly contradicts the story presented in the last saga. This is a new continuity, especially if the crossover that has been talked about for a long time with G. I. Joe arrives despite everything.

It’s 1994 and Noah (Anthony Ramos), an electronics expert, and Elena (Dominique Fishback), an artifact researcher, find themselves in the middle of the likely eternal war between Autobot and Decepticon. With the mythical Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons also joining the conflict, this heralds the arrival of Unicron, the Planet Devourer, to Earth.

The first of Michael Bay’s Transformers films was not a critical success, but it was well-received by audiences around the world and introduced a long series of films that cannot be ignored. While the film’s central premise borrowed the essence and some of the story’s rhythms from past iterations of the featured characters, it largely created its own trail and added a layer of “realism” and determination to the property.

The story of Transformers begins in 2007, when teenager Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) goes in search of his first car and discovers the brave explorer Autobot Bumblebee, asleep and disguised as a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro. Meanwhile, the nefarious Decepticons of Transformers launch an attack on American bases and begin infiltrating the army’s network as they search for clues to the location of the tough AllSpark and its lost leader, Megatron, who crashed on Earth centuries ago.

The story of the second installment begins in the year 17,000 BC, while the Bounties (the original Autobots) save one of their own, declared “the Fallen”, from the construction of a sun collector on Earth that would have condemned the Solar system. important for the plot later.

Fast forward to 2009, two years after the decisive Battle of Mission City, the Autobots and humans have shaped the NEST (Treaty on Non-Biological Alien Species) and are hunting the remaining Decepticons on Earth. After stealing the last known piece of the AllSpark, the Decepticons will resurrect Megatron, who plans to get revenge on Optimus Prime. Megatron also wants to extract data from Sam Witwicky, affected by the AllSpark incident at the end of the first film, which could lead them to a new source of Energon.

Dark of the Moon marked the end of the original Transformers trilogy by Michael Bay, who, at the time of production, was unsure whether he would remain attached to the successful film franchise. Although the next two films would take place in the same timeline and continue the stories of the first three, Sam Witwicky and many recurring characters would not remain either. A massive replacement that already occurred in this third accession to Megan Fox’s absence due to behind-the-scenes drama with Bay.

Once again, the story is set in the same year of its release (2011 this time). However, the 1969 moon landing is of paramount importance and defines the backbone of the plot. In 1961, the Ark, a Cybertronian spaceship carrying an invention capable of ending the war between Autobots and Decepticons, crashes into the appearance of the Moon and is detected by NASA. When, on the day of the offer, the Autobots notice this information, a recovery project is presented and the Decepticons team up to misuse the same invention.

After a longer wait of 3 years, the fourth live-action Transformers film brought Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) as the franchise’s new human leader. However, just like in the previous 3 films, a lot of importance was given to his family. His “struggling single father” attitude and his experience as an inventor gave the story another human angle.

There’s a five-year jump in this one, which brings us to 2016, unless we’ve missed something. The United States and the world at large have undergone many adjustments after the terrible Battle of Chicago. Most notably, Transformers (regardless of faction) are hostile through top governments and are hunted down and used to create highly complex drones. To make matters worse, a Cybertronian assassin named Lockdown is sent through the creators (like those who created the Transformers) to track down Optimus Prime and put him into effect. an evil plan.

The Last Gentleman wasn’t exactly a huge publicity flop, but Paramount and Hasbro lost a lot of money on it. And so, the continuity of the Transformers led by Michael Bay was provided after 2017. While both die-hard enthusiasts and casual audiences claimed that it was a smart series, it all came to a halt just as the story arrived on the famous Unicron. This may explain why Paramount and Hasbro are so keen to introduce the gigantic villain as soon as imaginable in the new timeline.

Entirely derived from, and even contradicting and reconnecting, the events of its own continuity, the fifth live-action Transformers film puts a lot of weight on Earth’s afterlife and the legend of King Arthur, his knights and Merlin.

The popular story would take place a year after Age of Extinction, which would make it coincide with the release year again. The Paramilitary Transformers Response Force continues to pass after all the Transformers, even if it means running with captured Decepticons. However, the looming threat of the Creators, a mysterious talisman, and the disappearance of Optimus Prime into deep space lead to a new race against time to save Earth from destruction.
