During the visit, the Duchess of Sussex joined World Trade Organization leader Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to address a crowd of women and young people in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. Meghan said: “Never in a million years would I perceive this as much as I do. Do it now. During her visit, the Duchess also used her platform to highlight the importance of mentoring young women and talk about the demanding situations Nigerian women face in securing leadership positions.
Meghan highlighted that one facet of mentoring young women is “coming home” in her network to stay one generation connected to the next.
The pair have been invited to Nigeria through the Chief of the Defence Staff, and they are also there to announce the Duke Invictus Games, which hosts sporting events for wounded or wounded veterans, as well as serving military personnel.
This is the Sussex royal family’s first stop to Africa since 2019. On their last official stop as a working royal family, the couple made stops in South Africa, Malawi, Angola and Botswana.
