Wing Showdown offers celebrity-approved recipes at Vancouver restaurants

Woo Jin Kim, the chef at The Gyoza Bar in Vancouver, has no hesitation when asked to describe the characteristics of the best bird wing.

“The best wing should be crisp on the outside, but juicy and tender on the inside, served with a balanced flavor sauce,” Kim says.

This delicious costume will be displayed from July 29 to August 2 as part of a celebrity-led special occasion with Uber Eats called The Wing Showdown. The food initiative sees a handful of restaurants in Vancouver, Toronto and some U.S. cities. They serve recipes for the beloved bird wings, decided through 10 celebrities, adding Snoop Dogg, Tyra Banks, Jessie James Decker and Shaquille O’Neal.

“Everyone has their own wing preference, so we chose a diverse organization of 10 local venues that match the city to provide their own interpretation of the celebrity wings recipe,” says Lola Kassim, CEO of Uber Eats. “We have partnered with local restaurants, all of which are popular in their respective cities and are still on the list of ‘best wings’. We’ve also decided on restaurants in several other neighborhoods in each city so that as many other people as you can imagine can participate in the Wing Showdown. »

The recipes on offer, Kassim says, are the ones that all celebrities have spent “organizing and preparing” to prepare them well. The recipe for maximum votes will be crowned with the 2020 productive global wing and you’ll see a donation made on behalf of a celebrity to the Center for Policing Equity, which aims to end racial prejudice in the police through “data-driven strategies.”

At the Gyoza Bar, the team worked “meticulously” to make the recipe selected through fashion designer Zac Posen, nicknamed Winging It With Zac Posen, come to life, paying homage to the “celebrity culinary vision” and highlighting the signature of the restaurant “Marukatsu”. style.” Array»

“They are crisp, juicy, tasty and definitely addictive,” Kim says of the wings that will be presented during the showdown. “We believe that the general consideration and creativity of the recipe actually brings a complex flavor profile to the wing, editing this comforting old dish.

“We looked forward to introduce you to Vancouver.”

It wasn’t just the delivery of delicious bird wings to consumers that led the chef and the place to eat to point out the confrontation. According to Kim, it was also an apparent aid issue for the food delivery platform that proved useful to the status quo of the existing pandemic.

“Uber Eats has been a platform for our restaurant, especially in those difficult times,” Kim says. “We are very happy to have this opportunity to collaborate with an industry so different from ours, fashion, and to show our unique cuisine and flavor to a wider audience.”
